“We tried to capture that feeling of excitement and elation that comes with falling for or getting drunk on someone new,” explains the duo, who wrote half the song in reflection outside a sunny cafe in Bristol, and the rest at a busy train station in London. ‘Gold’ joins Mauwe’s debut EP tracklist, alongside singles ‘That’s All’ and ‘Smoked a Pack’ which show bandmates Jay and Portia’s complimentary boy-girl vocals meld together over purely effortless pop, that bounces to its own beat. The five-track release is packed with tropical hints, 8-bit synth sounds and dreamy melodies that just soak in at the heartstrings.
