For anyone who caught the bossy music video for Charmaine’s debut single ‘BOLD’, you’ll know that this Canadian-Zimbabwean artist doesn’t hold back in her performances. The new video for ‘Woo!’ takes the classic car ride video that puts the rapper, singer and lyricist Charmaine right in the driving seat. Combining avant-garde with street fashion, Charmaine’s looks are jaw-dropping throughout the video, further emphasising the heaps of personality that she has.
The audio release of ‘Woo!’ has been discovered in Spotify playlists like Northern Bars and Hip-Hop Central. Charmaine has also been selected as the cover artist for Apple Music’s Made In Canada playlist.
Charmaine has pulled in impressive co-signs from Ebro Darden on Apple Music, while also winning over praise from Hip Hop legend Fatman Scoop, who showed massive support to Charmaine’s debut release ‘BOLD’.
Born in Zimbabwe, Charmaine and her family immigrated to North America in search of a better life that led to multiple stops in the US before finally settling in Toronto, Canada where she now calls home. Calling Toronto home was not an easy feat for her, as her family lost their house in the beginning after her father got laid off from his job, turning all six of her family members to live in dirty motel rooms. A kitchen so small, only one person could fit in there at a time; no stove, just a little hot plate. The silver lining is that her struggle inspired the young Charmaine to sit on the floor with her little notebook and write songs, just dreaming of being any place but within the walls of a Motel 6. Out of her tough upbringing was birthed survival, a hard work ethic that led to a confident rapper with all the accompanying strut and swagger, and a brilliant R&B vocalist able to deliver a heart-stopping ballad. All will be revealed when Charmaine’s debut EP drops later this year.
