California-Based DJ and Producer Crafting a Unique Fusion of Electronic and Indie Music
California-based DJ and producer James Converse, known by his moniker CONVERSE BASIN, is making waves in the music scene with his unique fusion of dance, techno, electronic, and indie music. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, CONVERSE BASIN’s latest release “Anything” is a chilled-out house track that’s sure to get you grooving.
One of the standout features of CONVERSE BASIN’s music is his use of organic and human sounds, which he expertly converts into synthesizers, resulting in a human-like and familiar synth sound. The pandemic presented an opportunity for CONVERSE BASIN to focus on his music, resulting in a series of singles in 2022, and the darker, more danceable Duality EP in September of the same year.
Mastered by Lucas Michalski of Lumic Studios in Poland, the Duality EP features guest vocals from Kat Sweitz on the track “Rude Awakening,” adding a unique Fiona Apple-esque flavour to the music. CONVERSE BASIN also collaborated with Kat Sweitz on the dubstep track “Siren,” which came with an official music video release.
As a husband and father of three, CONVERSE BASIN’s passion for music dates back to his early twenties when he DJ’d in Boulder and San Francisco. He has since amassed an impressive vinyl collection, drawing inspiration from diverse artists such as The Head and The Heart, Jose Gonzalez, Passion Pit, MGMT, Miike Snow, Paul Oakenfold, Sasha & John Digweed, Lane8, Jerro, Yotto, Sultan & Shepard, Shallou, and Attom.
The story behind CONVERSE BASIN’s namesake is a fascinating one, as Converse Basin used to be the largest grove of redwoods in the world until lumber companies cut them all down, leaving just one tree standing. The clash of nature and civilization is a recurring theme in his music, expressing the story of how mother nature sometimes fights back.
