Rising from the Ashes: The Journey of a Determined Musician
Born and bred in Barrow In Furness, Cumbria, and has been crafting tunes since the tender age of eleven. With a keen passion for the art form, they soon found themselves moving to Brighton to pursue a degree in songwriting at the prestigious BIMM.
As their talent grew, they started performing at end-of-term showcases, and it wasn’t long before A&R reps from major publishing houses came knocking. Despite initial interest and collaborations with other artists, the relationship soon petered out.
Undeterred, they made the move to London, where they took on the dual roles of a music copyright specialist and frontman for their own ‘party rock’ outfit, Team New Band. Drawing influence from the likes of Talking Heads and Pixies, the band’s sound was a force to be reckoned with. However, their dreams were short-lived when they signed a disastrous record deal, leaving them in financial ruin.
But this music journalist’s creative spirit refused to be crushed. They soon formed another band, Hari Debi, whose sound was darker and more ominous, drawing inspiration from the likes of Led Zeppelin and The Dead Weather. However, the pandemic put a stop to their momentum, and the lead singer and this journalist were forced to flee the capital in search of cheaper rent and greener pastures, which ultimately led to the dissolution of the band.
For two years, this musician was in a creative funk, like so many others. But now they’ve dusted off their guitar and are back in action, ready to release their first solo album, Reckless Abandon, due out later this year. It’s a nerve-wracking experience going solo for the first time after spending their entire musical life in bands, but they’ve finally reached the point where they want to make music that makes them happy rather than trying to please others’ expectations.
This artist is a true testament to the resilience and determination of the human spirit when it comes to their passion for music. Their journey may have been bumpy, but it has only served to make them stronger and more ready than ever to share their sound with the world.
