Prepare to embark on a musical journey guided by the tender artistry of Gal Musette, the artistic alias of Grace Freeman, a prodigious talent whose enchanting melodies first graced the stage when she began crafting piano and guitar-driven lyrical compositions at the tender age of 10 in her hometown of San Clemente, CA. Her gift for crafting indie-folk with a melody-driven finesse soon captured the hearts of audiences all across Southern California.

At the age of 14, fueled by the muse of The Magnetic Fields’ iconic triple album, ’69 Love Songs,’ Gal embarked on her own musical odyssey, birthing a collection aptly titled ’70 Love Songs.’ Her creative prowess didn’t go unnoticed, drawing the attention of the band themselves and earning her the privilege of opening for them on select dates of their Midwestern U.S. tour. It was a serendipitous moment that marked the beginning of her remarkable journey.

In more recent years, Gal has graced the stage alongside a constellation of musical luminaries, sharing her ethereal sound with the likes of Macy Gray, Suzanne Vega, Todd Snyder, and Donavon Frankenreiter. While her moniker draws inspiration from “bal-musette,” the accordion-infused, waltz-style French instrumental music, her creative wellspring finds its source in a diverse array of songwriters, including the likes of Joni Mitchell, Regina Spektor, Björk, Cocteau Twins, Burt Bacharach, Big Thief, and The Cure.

In October 2021, Gal unveiled her debut album, ‘Backwards Lullaby,’ an opus that featured a sublime vocal duet with one of her most cherished musical inspirations, Rufus Wainwright. The album wove intricate narratives of unrequited love and the ache of hopeless romances, delving into the transition from idealized love to the embrace of what’s real and enduring. It also explored the cyclical nature of love and life within relationships.

Fast forward to July 2022, and Gal gifted the world an orchestral EP, a reimagined sonic tapestry consisting of three tracks from ‘Backwards Lullaby.’ These gems were skillfully adorned with the musical talents of Via Mardot, a gifted multi-instrumentalist hailing from Detroit, Michigan, adding new dimensions to Gal’s mesmerizing compositions.

Now, as Gal prepares to unleash her sophomore album, ‘Pendulum,’ she ventures deep into the ever-shifting terrain of mental stability. Her songs become poignant snapshots of the human psyche, capturing moments of peace, turbulence, acceptance, hopelessness, abjection, obsession, bravery, and weakness. These musical moments stand in juxtaposition, woven together to create a cathartic experience that mirrors the ebbs and flows of the mind.

So, brace yourself for the pendulum’s swing as Gal Musette takes you on an auditory expedition through the intricate landscapes of emotion and introspection. With her graceful melodies and evocative lyrics, she invites you to traverse the labyrinthine corridors of the heart and soul, where every note and every word carries the weight of profound authenticity.
