Originally born in Liverpool, ANDRO moved to London to train at renowned acting school Drama Centre London. After more than 3 years on the road with Mercury Prize-nominated Jungle, he launched his solo project with two self directed videos for ‘When the Alarm Calls’ and ‘Afterlife’. He now presents his ‘emotive, and passionate’ third single LIAR. On the track, Andro says:
“I wrote Liar, totally premeditating a bond I knew would fail. And I was also grieving. It echoes the period when you’re yearning for nothing but intimacy and you feel you’ve been ladened with a lie after the breakdown of a ‘companionship’.”
ANDRO cinematically invites us in with a dark vintage narrative echoing the 80’s. He serenades us with his soulful tone and journeys us through motifs of loss and grief, as well as the falseness, sometimes fickleness of his friendships. Fusing an eerie vocal harmony with a simple yet cutting production and raw lyricism, ANDRO’s style, charisma and raw vocal talent is reminiscent of the late, great Prince.
ANDRO (meaning MAN or MASCULINE in Greek) is smashing the stereotype of what it means to be a Black/Mixed Race Male Artist in this era of social norm and expectancy. His androgynous appeal and strong vocal style means there is no male artist like him, and the bar he has set with his new video for Liar cements his status as one of London’s most unique and pioneering emerging artists.
