With one foot in Copenhagen and the other in Corsica, singer and songwriter Malu Pierini conjures a cinematic world on her striking new single “Libera Me.” The track is an emotional storm, dramatic, soulful, and laced with the dark humor that makes Pierini’s music so compelling.

The title, meaning “Free Me” in Latin, borrows from an old Corsican church hymn that Pierini remembers from her childhood summers on the island. In her hands, it becomes something more — a plea for release from fear, from old patterns, and from the ghosts of the past.

“Libera Me is the ultimate self sabotage anthem,” Pierini explains. “It’s about standing in front of a love that’s kind and unconditional, and still feeling the need to run. It’s absurd and it’s human.”

That absurdity takes center stage in the song’s narrative. With piercing wit and black humor, Pierini sings about the chaos that comes when intimacy feels too real. She imagines flinging herself off a cliff, crashing her father’s car, or breaking every bone in her body — anything to avoid surrendering to something that might actually be good for her.

“It’s a song about the nonsense that goes on in your head — those secret thoughts you hope no one can hear,” she says. “Like thinking, this love is perfect, so obviously I should ruin it. You want to break your old habits, but somehow you trip over your own shoelaces every time.”

Sonically, Libera Me is a rich blend of French elegance, soulful textures, and Nordic melancholy. Its organic production opens with a tender recorded exchange between Pierini and her 95-year-old uncle, setting an intimate tone as Corsican church bells echo through the chorus. The result feels deeply personal yet universal — a reflection of heritage, humor, and heartache.

As with her previous singles “Souvenir” and “Just For Us,” Pierini continues to push her artistry into bold new territory. Her music has already earned national Danish radio airplay, sold out shows, and praise from Soundvenue and GAFFA, alongside international nods from COLORS (DE), FIZZY Magazine (DE), DLSO (IT), and Ones To Watch (US).

“Libera Me” marks the beginning of Malu Pierini’s debut album era — a fearless exploration of love, self sabotage, and the strange beauty of setting yourself free.
