NYC-based hip-hop artist Varn Curtis just dropped his debut EP, Hungry Happy Sleepy. Among the release’s highlights is the track “I Get High,” featuring DJ Takeova. The track’s hypnotic beat, the warbled bass and psych-friendly vocal sample/loop, play effectively throughout — the production from Infinite Beats is commendable.
The vocal flow/feel aptly captures the thrill of certain recreational pursuits. It captures the feeling of sitting around with some friends, navigating together even when the high gets a bit too intense. The Icky-icky-icky bit around 01:41 is infectiously delivered, and from here the track effectively delivers a fiercer tone to help carry the conclusion with vigour.
