Following Ormiston’s debut single ‘Rebel’, the Canadian musician presents more of his heart-on-his-sleeve songwriting and infectious indie-pop style in sophomore release ‘Step From The Limelight’.

This new song is the story of someone scared of being trapped in monotony. ‘Step From The Limelight’ criticizes the desire to be part of an empty culture, filled only with glances and stares to satisfy our self-esteem.

The phrase “I could never step from the limelight” reminds us that we are continually pushed to play a role in an act that is not our own, forcing us to forget who we really are and to put on the mask that will please what others think of us. The rhythm of the drum pattern and guitar creates this explosive sound, a sense of emergency accompanied by evocative vocals, a great example of Ormiston’s signature sound.

Born into a bilingual Montreal family, Nicola Ormiston was raised around female musicians and grew up with a strong sense of melody. After mixing and producing some tracks for Milk & Bone, Heartstreets, Misage and Freida Mari, he released in 2013 the song ‘Typically Her’ (under the name Beverlay) that ended up being remixed by Kaytranada, helping it reach more than 3 million streams worldwide. In 2020, he signed with Canadian label Lisbon Lux Records (Le Couleur, Russell Louder, Radiant Baby and Das Mörtal).
