Heartbreak and healing
Katie is a Nashville based singer and songwriter from Ann Arbor, MI. Nashville-based songstress Katie Pederson is breaking hearts with her new single, “Lake Louise,” a second sneak peak to her full-length album, “Limitless,” set to be released later this spring.
Surrounded by melodies played on her grandfather’s Steinway and harmonies are sung by her mom, Katie found a love for song at a very young age. Inspired by artists such as Sara Bareilles, Ben Folds, and Elton John, she began writing music in high school, combining raw, vulnerable lyricism with catchy melodies and pop-piano sounds. “Lake Louise,” leaves behind some of the hip-hop and rhythmic elements from previous singles to hold space for a more acoustic, emotional feel. Slide guitar compliments the piano, hammering home imagery of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world in Alberta, Canada – Lake Louise.
“A lot of doors had closed for me prior to writing this song, and Lake Louise had been a place that seemed like it would hold space for healing. While driving there, I was struck by the beauty of the Rockies in the daylight, while also being surprised by how scared I felt when I was driving through them at night. It seemed like a perfect metaphor for how quickly things had changed for me at that point in my life. When I got there it was this strange contrast of gratitude for being able to experience such beauty, while also realizing I couldn’t run away from the hurt that had led me there.”
Since the pandemic began, Katie has spent many weeks and months in her Nashville apartment writing songs for her next project to be released in early 2022. The full-length album “Limitless,” tells stories of heartbreak and healing, with themes taken directly from her own battle with mental health, heartbreak and loss, driving across the continent to find herself again, to eventually end up in music city.
Her first single, “Guard Down,” was named as one of the top 10 Nashville pop releases of 2021 by Music Mecca, and the forthcoming single, “One Before the One,” was recognized as a semi-finalist in the Unsigned Only songwriting competition for 2021. Several of the songs on the record landed Katie on the, “Ones to Watch,” lists with the Nashville Songwriting Association when submitted for feedback during the writing process.
In keeping with her commitment to being authentic in her songwriting, she admits, “sometimes honesty is sad, but it’s worth it.” The lyrics weave stories that take us through the mountains of Western Canada, all the way through the forests and plains of the Northwest United States, resolving finally home, at the shores of Lake Michigan where she connected with producer Jake Rye, of Social Recording Company to record her new record, Limitless, set to be released in the spring of 2022.
