When Saints Go Machine Rediscover the Human Touch on New Album “Greatest Escape”
“We’re living in a spiritually vacant time. The way we exist distances us from our own emotions. Instead, our emotional selves are annexed by algorithms, hidden behind columns of calculations. We’re boundary testing in rush hour. We’re a click. We’re the user.”
With those words, When Saints Go Machine capture the essence of their bold new chapter. After more than fifteen years of shaping a distinctive, genre-blurring electronic sound, the Copenhagen trio step into unfamiliar territory on their newly released album “Greatest Escape.” Out now, the record is a breathtaking reinvention — one that trades synthetic perfection for something raw, tactile, and deeply human.
Every sound on Greatest Escape — from the trembling vocals to the lush instrumental layers — was created by people the band share real connections with. It’s a record that rejects automation in favor of emotion, a reminder that true creation still happens in the messy, beautiful space between human hands.

“There’s something magical about experiencing something for the first time,” says frontman Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild. “It’s a fight for imagination. To keep it untouched and preserve the force it needs to develop. These are the moments we immortalize when hands create together. It’s an escape from the calculated. A charge forward. A spirit defending itself.”
That defiant spirit pulses through “Ice Rink,” one of the album’s most luminous and emotionally charged tracks. Vonsild’s fragile yet soaring voice drifts over a dreamlike production crafted by Jonas Kenton and Silas Moldenhawer, capturing the feeling of an ecstatic memory you can’t quite hold onto.
Greatest Escape also features the acclaimed singles “Chainsaw / Trying” and “Co-Star,” which earned heavy rotation on Danish national radio and praise from HUNGER (UK), COLORS (DE), KCRW (US), and KUTX (US). Together, they paint a portrait of a band rediscovering the beauty of imperfection — and finding freedom in the process.
Following the album’s release, When Saints Go Machine embark on a nationwide Danish tour, culminating in their largest indoor performance to date at Poolen, Copenhagen on November 21.
“Greatest Escape” is out now — a record that proves in a world ruled by algorithms, humanity still makes the most powerful noise of all.
