Malu Pierini Opens the Door for “Libera Me”
On January 30, Malu Pierini releases her long-awaited debut album Libera Me, a deeply personal collection of ten songs that weave together family history, French elegance, Nordic melancholy, and contemporary soul.
Drawing on memories that stretch from sun-soaked childhood summers on Corsican shores to her grandparents’ whirlwind love affair in the neon glow of 1960s Paris, and finally to the muted rain of Copenhagen, Libera Me unfolds like a treasured photo album. Past and present exist side by side, with each song offering a fragment of memory shaped by time, distance, and emotion.

Out now the release of the album’s guiding single, Pourquoi — French for “why?”.
“The song is about my grandmother, who travelled to Paris as a young dancer, drawn in by the spotlight and a sweeping romance,” Pierini explains. “Slowly, she realised that life wasn’t the dream she had imagined. On one level, Pourquoi is about giving everything to a love that doesn’t return the same devotion, and about recognising how I’ve repeated parts of her story in my own blind spots and patterns.”
She continues: “But the song is also existential. It reflects on how even the smallest choices ripple across time, eventually carrying me, sixty years later, onto a stage not unlike the one she once stood on.”
Sonically, Pourquoi arrives like a postcard from Paris: intimate, wistful, and softly cinematic. Pierini’s vocal performance balances drama and vulnerability, with subtle echoes of Édith Piaf woven into a modern sound world where sensitivity meets theatrical flair.
The song’s emotional contrasts, light and shadow, sorrow and joy, are brought into focus in the accompanying music video, filmed in Pigalle by photographer Julie Montauk.
Malu Pierini has quickly emerged as one of the Nordic region’s most compelling new voices. Her velvet-warm, soul-washed, Mediterranean-tinted pop has earned national radio rotation in Denmark and acclaim from leading tastemakers including Soundvenue and GAFFA, while also attracting international attention from platforms such as COLORS (DE), DLSO (IT), FIZZY Magazine (DE), and Ones to Watch (US).
The release of Libera Me will be celebrated with exclusive live shows in Copenhagen and Aarhus. “Pourquoi” and Libera Me are released independently via Universal Music Group.
