BirdyTwice Welcomes You to the “Broken Hearts Club”
Copenhagen keeps quietly turning out pop artists who can make you laugh in the same breath as your eyes start watering, and BirdyTwice, the project of singer-songwriter Alberte Veirum Larsen, sits squarely in that tradition. Her new single “Broken Hearts Club,” out now, takes a small absurd moment of heartbreak and turns it into a welcome mat.
The song begins with the kind of jolt you can only deliver if you’re being completely honest. Larsen clocks her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend, registers the resemblance to herself, and instead of curdling, she opens the door. Over warm vintage production and a pop chorus you can’t quite shake, “Broken Hearts Club” turns the discovery from sting into solidarity. The arrangement does some heavy lifting here: bright disco-leaning shimmer, hooky harmonies, and just enough swing to keep the whole thing from sliding into wistfulness.

“When my ex-boyfriend and I got together, I was surprised by how much I looked like his ex — like, eerily similar. I remember thinking, ‘Wow, you really have a type,’ and I quickly started to feel less special. Was I actually unique to him, or just another one? When we broke up, I suddenly felt this strong bond with his other exes. We had so much in common. The strangest part is that his new girlfriend looks like me too. And honestly, all I can say is: welcome to the club, girl,” she says.
BirdyTwice describes her own music as a kind of imaginary birdhouse — somewhere people can “move in,” sing along, and find themselves, bitter and sweet, beautiful and ugly. That sense of multiplicity is what gives the song its lift. There’s grief here, sure, but more than that there’s an arm round your shoulder and a sense that someone gets it. The project sits in the duality between Larsen’s quieter Northern Jutland roots and a wide-eyed Copenhagen energy, and the combination is disarming.
“Broken Hearts Club” is the first single from BirdyTwice’s “Heartbreak Era,” with more on the way through 2026.
